These weekly/bi-weekly updates to local merchants provide an overview of construction progress on the roundabout.

June 22, 2018

The big takeaway this week is there will be night road work this Sunday, June 24, through Thursday, June 28. In order to create a smooth road surface, the City contractor will dig up old asphalt and concrete and re-pave sections of road near the roundabout each night –- between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. — to minimize disruption and inconvenience to Healdsburg residents, workers, and visitors.

This work makes it necessary to close vehicular access to the roundabout between 8 p.m. – 6 a.m., June 24-28, from:

• South Healdsburg Avenue from Exchange Avenue.
• Westside Road/ West Mill from Vineyard Plaza/Carl’s Jr. driveway
• East Mill from Center Street
• North Healdsburg from Matheson
• Vines Street from Vineyard Plaza entrance

Please note that from Monday through Wednesday, June 25-27, the road surface into and through the roundabout will be gravel/compacted rock, so please drive more carefully and slower than usual. Please consider using alternate routes during this time.

Now, on to the rest of the construction update:

  • More night work: We plan to re-pave Healdsburg Avenue south of the circle as well as short portions of Mill, Vine and N. Healdsburg Ave during the week of June 25. Much of this work will be done at night to mitigate inconvenience to drivers and the general public. Parts or all of Healdsburg Ave. south of the circle may be closed during this night-time work, but we will confirm all details in the near future once we finalize the plan.
  • Looking ahead: In the first two weeks of July, the contractor is tentatively scheduled to build a long median island on Healdsburg Ave. south of the circle and small “pork-chop style” medians on East and West Mill, N. Healdsburg Ave., and Vine St. We will provide more information once we confirm the schedule and details.

  • Next week, a sub-contractor will start installing an irrigation system and applying topsoil to landscaped areas.

And here’s a photo that more clearly shows the progress of the stone wall being built in the center of the roundabout.

May 4, 2018

Construction work continues, helped in part by the sunny, dry weather we’ve been having.

A few takeaways:

  • Bay Cities continues its curb and gutter work along South Healdsburg Ave. and in and around the circle.
  • Early- to mid-next week, Bay Cities will demolish and re-pave Singletree Café’s northern driveway. The café’s southern driveway will still be accessible during this work, and both driveways will be fully accessible by Friday, May 11.
  • In the week of May 14, Bay Cities is tentatively scheduled to demolish the old sidewalk and grade, form and pour the new sidewalk on the northern side of East Mill St., in front of Rockpile and Shoffeitt’s.

And here’s the rest of the construction update:

April 27, 2018

Construction in and around the roundabout is really coming along nicely. The big takeaways this week:

  • If you’ve driven around it recently, you’ll see that the circle is being constructed as well as decorative stone walls. The stone wall within the circle will be several feet high and tie into the landscaping within the circle.
  • Starting the week of May 7, a subcontractor will place lithocrete, an architectural concrete with embedded recycled materials, on South Healdsburg Avenue. This along with cobbles placed in the center circle will be used to delineate the flow and direction of Foss Creek. This decorative cobble feature is also porous, which will help cut the amount of storm water run-off.

Here are several photos, taken yesterday, of the stone walls in progress as well as of the circle.

Now on to the rest of the roundabout update:

Southwest Surface Improvements (S. Healdsburg Ave)
This week through next week:

April 20, 2018

The weather has been cooperating of late, and we continue to make good progress on roundabout construction. The two big takeaways this week:

  • Sidewalks are getting installed for pedestrian access; this includes between Vine and Healdsburg Ave (a sidewalk route that never previously existed for the City), plus the rail trail now connects to Mill Street East. In the coming weeks, sidewalks on South Healdsburg Avenue to Singletree will also be installed.
  • A subcontractor will start to install the irrigation system and top soil in several areas around the roundabout to prep for greenery planting.

And now on to the rest of the roundabout construction update:

April 6, 2018

The big takeaways this week:

Rain and more rain: The rain this week and next is delaying some construction work; the contractor is trying to keep the dirt areas dry, so it won’t open up more areas. That way, Bay Cities can start work as soon as possible after the rains cease.

East Mill Now Open: Bay Cities excavated the temporary road pavement and installed the first layer of permanent asphalt, so East Mill St. is now open one way for eastbound traffic.

Traffic Pattern Switch: The traffic pattern has been switched back to circular access – no more 4-way stop. This pattern will remain for the duration of construction.

Sidewalks: The contractor is pouring the new sidewalk on South Healdsburg Avenue down to Singletree, in front of Parish Cafe on West Mill, on Healdsburg Avenue near the Chamber onto Vine, as well as on East Mill. In the coming weeks, after Bay Cities does more work, pedestrians will have better access to these areas.

Now onto the rest of the construction update:
